Losing my soulmate was not easy. It completely changed my life. What appeared to be good became nothing more than dull. And day after day, I grew more broken, isolated, and silenced.
But I knew I had to change for my children.
I didn’t know what I was looking for when I started. I just knew I needed something to change. I was tired of the constant noise, the mental clutter, the emotional numbness that had become my norm since the passing of my beloved. So I committed to thirty days of spiritual discipline through 365 Days of Inner Transformation. It was initially just for a month of early mornings, Scripture, prayer, and reflection.
What I discovered during that month helped me rediscover myself.
The first thing I learned was how distracted I had become from my heart. I’d been living from a place of reaction rather than intention. When I began setting aside time each morning to read Scripture and reflect using 365 Days of Inner Transformation, I saw how much I’d been moving through life without truly being present.
I also discovered how critical my inner voice had become. Through daily devotions that invited honesty and emotional awareness, I realized how often I judged myself and others for not being there for my husband. I realized that I was blaming myself for something out of my control. One day’s reading asked, “What unkind thoughts are you allowing to define you?” That question stopped me in my tracks. I’d been speaking words to myself that I would never say to anyone. The devotional taught me to filter my inner dialogue and encouraged me to be more optimistic and real.
Another insight came through the act of showing up. I came to know that discipline is about commitment. Even when I didn’t feel spiritual on some days, I showed up. Even when I was tired, I opened the book. And slowly, peace found its way into my routine. And a sense of stability returned to my spirit.
I also learned that spiritual discipline isn’t just about God hearing from me. It’s about me learning to hear from Him. The more I created space for prayer and stillness, the more I sensed God speaking through clarity, peace, and conviction that provided me with the strength to move past the grief and to open my heart towards peace and fulfillment and the grace of the LORD.
By day 30, I could not say that I had become perfect or that all my pain had vanished. But I had become present. And that changed everything for me to find hope and calm again.
If you’ve been longing to reconnect with yourself and with God, don’t wait for a retreat or a reset. Start today. Choose a daily rhythm. Let your soul settle. And let 365 Days of Inner Transformation guide you gently and faithfully to the LORD, with conviction and belief.
