Sometimes the best adventures begin with something simple: a morning drive, an open country road and a loyal dog riding beside someone he trusts. In Tommy and Otis The Dawgs: Tommy the Lop Eared Dog, author Patricia Foster turns those everyday moments into a warm children’s story filled with friendship, rescue, discovery and heart.

Tommy, a black-and-white Labrador, already has a special place in Mister Lynn’s life. After being rescued from the county animal shelter by Mister Lynn’s niece, Tommy quickly bonds with Mister Lynn and becomes his constant companion. Their connection is easy to see, especially when Tommy eagerly follows him to the truck for another ride. Mister Lynn even installs a doggie seat belt, so Tommy can travel safely in the front passenger seat.

For Tommy, these rides are more than transportation. They are adventures.

As Mister Lynn drives through the countryside, Tommy takes in the sights around him. They pass farms, fields and animals, while Mister Lynn talks to him along the way. A pasture full of cows becomes a chance to explain where milk comes from and how it is used to make familiar foods like butter.

Then one ordinary stop changes everything.

While stopping at a store, Mister Lynn sees a gold-and-white mixed-breed dog rushing toward him. The dog is frightened and clearly needs help. The storekeeper explains that someone had left him behind in the parking lot to fend for himself. Mister Lynn cannot ignore what has happened.

He returns to the truck and looks to Tommy, whose reaction suggests concern and compassion. Soon, the abandoned dog is welcomed into the vehicle and given a name: Otis. Mister Lynn tries to locate anyone who might know him by posting his picture on a community website and putting up flyers, but no one comes forward. Before long, Otis has his own doggie seat belt and a new place beside Tommy.

From there, the adventures become even more enjoyable.

Tommy and Otis begin traveling together and people around the community grow accustomed to seeing the pair riding with Mister Lynn. Neighbors wave as they pass, while Mister Lynn honks and waves back. What started as a simple routine becomes something the entire community seems to enjoy.

Their drives also introduce the dogs and young readers to more of the natural world. Tommy and Otis see a mother deer and her fawn, watch a duck and her ducklings cross the road and spot an owl resting on a familiar tree branch. Mister Lynn explains different facts about the animals they encounter, adding gentle educational moments to the story.

That combination of fun and learning gives Tommy and Otis The Dawgs: Tommy the Lop Eared Dog its charm. Patricia Foster creates a story where rescue leads to friendship, friendship leads to adventure and adventure becomes a chance to discover something new.

With two lovable dogs, one trusty truck and plenty of countryside surprises ahead, Tommy and Otis invite young readers along for the ride.

Tommy and Otis The Dawgs: Tommy the Lop Eared Dog is currently in the publishing phase and will be available soon for readers.
